Wicked rocked my fucking SOCKS!
I WANT TO MARRY AMANDA HARRISON AND HAVE HER BABIES
EVEN THOUGH SHE ALREADY HAS BABIES!!!! She is the ants pants I swear to fucking god man! She... man... just man...
*breathes*
Okay. Coherent Kylie, now.
So I went to Melbourne on Tuesday for Wicked. We had tickets for the Wednesday evening preview performance. Yes, preview. No I was not happy when I found that out. I was further disappointed when I had heard that Amanda Harrison's understudy was performing, and not Amanda.
I got over my disappointment by the time we got to Melbourne though because, let face it, I had been waiting three years for Wicked to come to Australia. So i went in with an open mind though I was silently praying that we wouldn't have Amanda's understudy (even though I had heard her singing on youtube, and she was good). So I walked in to Regent Theatre (was awestruck by what they had done - the entire city had green lights EVERYWHERE), took my seat (10th row back, OMG!) and anxiously waited for the music to play. (By the way, the map on the curtain? OMG IT LOOKED SO AWESOME!) So the lights go out and the MC comes over the Mic "Good evening ladies and gentlemen, blah blah blah. Tonight the role of Galinda will be played by Erin (can't remember her last name) and Boq will be played by (can't remember his name at all)' but nothing about Elphaba... I nearly cried. I was so ecstatic!!
So we watched (Erin did... okay. She was a bit weak in her singing - her opera? That's a different story. She was awesome with her opera!)... I did cringe at Erin and Amanda singing together, but only because they turned down Amanda's mic considerably because she has a much stronger voice than Erin and would have completely drowned her out. So their belting together was really bad, because it was so soft... and when you belt... well you're pretty much supposed to be screaming into the microphone. When they were doing solos and they belted? It was perfect.
Speaking of perfect... Amanda... Defying Gravity... I broke into little pieces by the end of it. I rang my mum during the intermission and all I could say was Oh my god. She took that song and made it her own! Fucking fantastic!
I bought all my merchandise in that time (and still have to order things online). I spent $170. Two T-shirts (one grey one that says Defy Gravity in bright green letters with a sillouhette of Elphaba. And a black one that says Wicked Australia on it). I bought a jacket with a hood that had the word Wicked sewn onto the top left hand corner and Defy Gravity on the hood. A key ring with Elphaba's hat. A Wicked beanie. A programme... and I still want/need the snow globes :D
I bought a green slurpy (slushy), that I'm pretty sure had alcohol in it in this martini cup with a glowing green stem - fucking awesome!
Then I settled down for act 2.
All went well - then came No Good Deed. Amanda sang it awesomely despite the fact that she nearly fell on stage - to those who know Wicked and know what happened to Idina? It nearly happened to Amanda.
Elphaba is supposed to rise on this platform/trapdoor type thing and take a step backwards once it's risen. Well it must not have risen all the way, and Amanda has gone to take her step backwards, and her heals must have caught and she stumbled backwards! She didn't break out of character, just kept going.
For those who don't know the Idina situation - at the end where the wicked witch melts, Elphaba is supposed to step on the trapdoor, and it's supposed to go down under the stage. The platform started moving before she got onto the platform and she fell through it and fractured (broke?) her ribs.
Erin was great in the second act I have to admit, and she is a lovely girl. (I'll get to THAT in a minute).
The monkey people flew out into the audience - I got scared. No really I did lol.
They sang For Good (I didn't cry but it was good!). The moment that I felt it though? Elphaba is telling Glinda to stay behind the curtain and this really dramatic music is playing. Elphaba walks backwards really slowly, staring at Glinda and she puts her index finger to her lips to tell her not to make a sound... It was... My stomach flipped, it was so sad :(
The show ends (and I was really sad about that, lol) and they all come out for their curtain calls. When Erin and Amanda walk out - standing ovations. After the curtain drops, I grab Justin and make a run for the front of the theatre. I bombard this poor usher and ask him where stage door is. He tells me, I bolt for it. I have no texta (marker), no pen. Just my programme. I'm the only one at stage door. This chick rocks up and we start talking. I notice she has a texta. So I ask if I can borrow it if they happen to walk out this door. She says yes. So Rob Guest (the Wizard) walks out and this girl was like "Get him!!" But I was scared and didn't lol. Then Maggie Kirkpatrick (Madame Morrible) walks out, and I'm like "Maggie!" and she turned around and I was like "Can I get an autograph?" She said yes, asked for my name and signed my programme. Then I heard Rob say that we'd be waiting a while for Amanda and Erin to walk out. So we waited and about twenty minutes later Amanda and Rob Mills (Fiyero) walk out. I freaked the hell out. I'm right at that door and Amanda walks out (void of ANY green make-up) and my mouth goes dry. I'm like "Amanda?" and she's like "Hi!" and I was like omgomgomgomgomg!!! Then she got bombarded and she tells us to move away from the door so people can get in and out and no one will get hurt. So we move and I wait because I am nervous as hell, then I turn to the girl I was talking to and ask for her texta. Then I walk up to Amanda and I'm like "Amanda, can I get an autograph?" And she says "Yeah sure." She signs my programme then I ask if I can get a photo with her and again she says yes. So I wait, and Justin is just snapping away (photos up later when I can get them off my phone). Then when she finishes signing books she turns to me and she's like "Okay..." and I GOT A PICTURE WITH AMANDA HARRISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's so FRIKKIN little!!! She's probably a little bit taller than Cheno. She's. So. Little!!! So after that I thank her, proceed to tell her how great she did and then move on to Rob Mills, who is made of cute!(All the while screaming like a frikkin dickhead about how little and cool Amanda is; and how I got a pic and autograph LyK OMGneSSS!!!!) Of course all the girls were after him, so I wait my turn and when it dies down, I call for him and ask for an autograph and he was asking me what I thought. "I thought it was fantastic! I'm totally coming back to watch it again!" and he was like, "Oh really?" "Really!" So I ask him for a photo too, and I got one.
Then I get told that Erin is out there somewhere so I'm looking for her and muttering to myself - "There's an Erina out here somewhere..." And someone tells me she's down the street a bit, signing autographs... I don't know if it was because she is an understudy or because she is Glinda but she did not have a lot of people surrounding her. I didn't really want her autograph... wait, rephrase. I wouldn't have minded if I didn't get her autograph, but I asked for it anyway because she did do okay. So I get up to Erin... AND FRIKKIN HELL SHE'S TINY TOO! I tell her that she did really well (because she did...) get her autograph and a pic (that one is blurry though :( I didn't want to ask for another one, because they were in a hurry to get out of there) and then Justin and I go back to our hotel... I ring up Brett and proceed to rattle details off and make a scene...
I was on cloud nine all night! it was fucking fantastic.
I'm going to talk to a mate of mine at work and she when and if she wants to go. Hopefully she'll want to go soon!! It opens on the 12th of July here... I really want to see Amanda and Lucy sing together because they do it so well. They had a preview type thing on the W channel on foxtel last week... I nearly cried. They're voices are so evenly matched... so beautiful. I think I'll cry if I get understudies each time I go. I can't afford to keep going to Melbourne... If I don't get Amanda and Lucy next time, I'm going to try a third time, but I may have to fly out in the morning and fly back that same night. I don't want to keep taking too much time off work. But that's the risk right? If the same cast comes down to Sydney, then that's okay... But at the moment I don't care because OMG I SAW WICKED, I GOT MERCH, I GOT AUTOGRAPHS, I GOT PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
